Types of Orioles
Orioles are flashes of orange and black (or yellow and black) high in the leafy canopy, more often heard whistling than seen. They weave hanging basket nests and come readily to orange halves and grape jelly in spring. Here are the orioles in the Huck field guide, with how to identify each.

How do I attract orioles to my yard?
Put out orange halves, grape jelly, and a nectar feeder in early spring as they return from the tropics, and keep them up through May. Orioles arrive hungry after migration and a bright orange feeder is easy for them to spot.
What is the difference between a Baltimore and a Bullock’s Oriole?
Mostly range and face pattern. Baltimore Orioles hold the east and have a solid black head; Bullock’s Orioles hold the west and show an orange face with a black eye-line and cap. Where their ranges meet on the Great Plains they sometimes interbreed.
