The Alaskan Hare is one of the largest hares in North America, found only in western and southwestern Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula. It stays white throughout the year in some areas and turns brownish-gray in summer in others, depending on latitude. Alaskan hares forage on open tundra and rely on speed and their white winter coat for protection from predators.
