Alfaro's Pygmy Squirrel is a tiny squirrel of tropical forests from Nicaragua to Colombia, barely entering the boundaries of North America. It is one of the smallest tree squirrels in the Americas, with a body length of only 12–15 cm. It forages on tree bark for insects and fungi and is rarely observed due to its small size and secretive habits.
