Allen's Big-eared Bat is a spectacular bat of the southwestern mountains, with ears nearly as long as its body and unique anterior ear lobes that project forward over the forehead. It is a slow, maneuverable forager in dense vegetation that gleans insects from foliage using passive listening rather than active echolocation. The species is associated with mountain forests in the Madrean sky islands of Arizona, New Mexico, and Mexico.
