The Eurasian Collared-Dove is one of the most dramatic natural colonization events in ornithological history — introduced to the Bahamas in the 1970s, it reached Florida by 1980 and now occurs in virtually every state, with a US population estimated at nearly 1 billion. Its repetitive 'coo-COO-coo' call has become a common background sound in towns across the continent. Its black collar on the back of the neck is distinctive.
