The Evening Grosbeak is a large, exuberant finch of boreal forests that irrupts southward in spectacular numbers in some winters, descending on bird feeders in flocks demanding sunflower seeds with raucous 'clee-ip' calls. Males are strikingly colored with yellow, black, and white and bold yellow eyebrows. It was once strictly a western bird and has expanded eastward since the 19th century.
