The Flammulated Owl is a tiny, dark-eyed mountain owl of western ponderosa pine forests. Despite its small size and high-altitude residence, it is a long-distance migrant wintering in Mexico and Central America. It has dark — not yellow — eyes, which is unusual among owls. Its deep, resonant 'poo-poo' call carries far through pine forests on summer nights.
