The Gleaning Mouse is a medium-sized Peromyscus of western Mexico found in tropical dry forests and thorn scrub habitats. It is notable for building small haypile caches of dried seeds and plant material near its burrow entrance—an unusual food-hoarding behavior in the genus. Its pale gray coat blends well with the dry-season leaf litter of the Pacific slope.
