Goldman's Spiny Pocket Mouse inhabits highland forests of southern Mexico and Guatemala, where it forages for seeds in dense tropical understory. It has a mix of spiny and soft fur and external cheek pouches typical of the family Heteromyidae. This species was described by Joel Asaph Allen in 1891 and honors E.A. Goldman, a prominent early 20th-century mammalogist.
