The Zacatecan Deer Mouse is a large Peromyscus associated with rocky, scrubby habitats in the mountains of the American Southwest and Mexico. It is often found at higher elevations than related species, occupying pinon-juniper woodland and coniferous forest edges. Its large body and thick fur suggest adaptation to cooler mountain temperatures.
