The Texas White-tailed Deer subspecies thrives in the Hill Country and brushlands of Texas, where it reaches some of the highest densities of any deer population in the world. Texas hunters harvest over 600,000 deer per year, more than any other state. The subspecies is somewhat smaller than northern white-tailed deer and is well adapted to the heat and aridity of Texas brushlands.
