Illustration of Common Raven (Corvus corax)

The Common Raven is the largest passerine in the world and one of the most intelligent animals ever studied, demonstrating problem-solving, tool use, deception, and even rudimentary planning for the future. Its deep, resonant 'cronk' and wide vocabulary of calls have made it central to the mythology of many Indigenous cultures. Pairs mate for life and engage in elaborate aerial play, including barrel rolls and flying upside down.
