The Crissal Thrasher is a dark, richly colored thrasher of desert washes and dense mesquite thickets named for its rusty crissum (undertail). It is a secretive skulker that is rarely seen despite giving loud, rich song. The combination of dark plumage, long decurved bill, and rusty undertail are diagnostic.
