The White Underwing is a striking underwing moth where white replaces the red of most relatives, bearing black banding on brilliant white hindwings. Its gray-and-white forewing pattern mimics the gray bark of the birch and aspen trees it inhabits. It is one of the largest and most beautiful members of the Catocala genus.
