The Olympic Black Bear subspecies inhabits the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Coast from Alaska to California. Pacific coast black bears are often larger than interior populations due to the rich salmon resource available along coastal streams. They are frequently observed in the rain forests of Olympic National Park, where the lush berry crop and salmon runs support high bear densities.
