The Pacific Shrew is a large, dark shrew found along the humid northern California and Oregon coast, one of the largest Sorex shrews in western North America. It is strongly associated with red-wood and Douglas fir forest floor microhabitats with abundant moisture and decaying logs. Its dark brown coloration blends perfectly with the deep shade of the coastal rainforest.
