Preble's Shrew is one of the rarest and least-known shrews in North America, known from scattered records across the Columbia Basin and Great Basin of the western United States. Its small size, secretive habits, and patchy distribution have made ecological study extremely difficult. Very little is known about its diet, reproduction, or population size.
