The Yellow-nosed Cotton Rat is a high-altitude cotton rat of the Madrean sky island mountains of Arizona, New Mexico, and adjacent Mexico, distinguished from other cotton rats by the yellowish fur around its muzzle. It inhabits dense grassy areas at elevations above 5,000 feet, typically in montane meadows near coniferous forests. This rat has a much more restricted range than the hispid cotton rat.
