The Red-necked Grebe is a large grebe with a rusty-red neck and whitish cheeks that contrast with a dark cap in breeding plumage. It breeds on boreal and prairie lakes and winters along both coasts. Like other grebes, newly hatched chicks ride on the parents' backs and are carried even during dives.
