Illustration of Lazuli Bunting (Passerina amoena)

The Lazuli Bunting is the western counterpart of the Indigo Bunting, the male bearing a turquoise-blue head, cinnamon breast, and white wing bars. Young males learn their songs from neighboring adult males shortly after arriving on the breeding grounds — creating local song neighborhoods. It hybridizes with the Indigo Bunting in the Great Plains.
