The White-tailed Jackrabbit is the largest hare in North America and one of the few jackrabbit species that turns predominantly white in winter for camouflage. It inhabits open prairies and high mountain meadows at elevations up to 13,000 feet. Unlike true rabbits, jackrabbits are born fully furred with open eyes, ready to hop within hours of birth.
