The Tayra is a large, weasel-like mustelid of Neotropical forests, with long legs, a bushy tail, and a distinctly pale yellowish head contrasting with its dark brown body. It is a highly agile climber that hunts across a wide range of habitats, from forest floor to tree canopy, pursuing prey from mice to iguanas. The tayra ranges north through Mexico and into southernmost Texas on rare occasions.
