The Lettered Sphinx is one of the earliest-flying sphinx moths in eastern North America, appearing in early spring when grape foliage first emerges. Its forewing has distinctive dark brown lines and markings that inspired its common name. Adults are attracted to light and can be found nectaring at flowers on warm spring nights.
