Safety note: Dangerous — observe from a safe distance.
The Kodiak Bear is the largest subspecies of brown bear and the largest land carnivore in the world after the polar bear, with exceptional individuals reaching 1,500 pounds in autumn. It is found only on the islands of the Kodiak Archipelago in Alaska, where productive salmon runs and abundant berries support its extraordinary size. Kodiak bears have been isolated on these islands for approximately 12,000 years, producing some genetic and morphological differentiation.
