Illustration of Least Weasel (Mustela nivalis)

The Least Weasel is the smallest carnivore in the world, yet it routinely hunts prey larger than itself using a swift bite to the base of the skull. Its tiny body fits easily inside mouse tunnels, allowing it to raid nests beneath snow and in dense vegetation. Least weasels have an extremely high metabolic rate and must eat frequently to survive.
