The Baja California Rock Squirrel is the Baja Peninsula counterpart to the California Rock Squirrel, with a distinctive dark-capped head and similar rocky, canyon-edge habitat preferences. It is endemic to the Baja California Peninsula and does not occur on the North American mainland.
