This large, muscular free-tailed bat of the American West roosts in small colonies in high cliff crevices and tall building facades. Its calls can be heard by the unaided human ear as a distinctive metallic chipping. It is a high, fast flier that forages well above the ground and can travel 30 miles from its roost in a single night.
