The Cape May Warbler is strongly associated with spruce budworm outbreaks in boreal forests — populations actually increase during these periodic insect eruptions. The breeding male is handsome with chestnut ear patches, yellow neck, and black-streaked yellow breast. It has a unique semi-tubular tongue adapted for sipping nectar from flowers on its Caribbean wintering grounds.
