Cassin's Sparrow is a bird of dry southern grasslands and shrubby desert edges. Males perform a distinctive 'skylarking' display — flying up several feet and parachuting down while singing a clear, sweet song. It is one of the most range-fluid sparrows, appearing and disappearing from areas depending on rainfall and grass conditions. It is extremely secretive when not singing.
