The Chestnut-backed Chickadee is the most richly colored chickadee in North America, with a brilliant chestnut back and rump that contrast with its black-and-white head. It is primarily a bird of the dense coniferous rainforests of the Pacific Coast, from Alaska to central California. It is often the most common species at Pacific Northwest feeders in winter.
