Illustration of Blackburnian Warbler (Setophaga fusca)

The Blackburnian Warbler is often called the 'fire throat' for the male's blazing orange-red throat — one of the most vivid colors found on any North American songbird. It occupies the very tops of tall conifers, making it notoriously difficult to see clearly. It winters in South American mountain forests and is highly vulnerable to deforestation at both ends of its range.
