The Arizona Gray Squirrel is a medium-sized tree squirrel found in the riparian and mountain forests of the Arizona-Mexico border sky islands. It is similar in appearance to other gray squirrels but smaller and restricted to pine-oak and walnut woodlands in isolated mountain ranges. Nest dreys of leaves and twigs high in trees are a reliable sign of its presence.
