The Glossy Ibis appears all-dark at a distance but up close shows stunning iridescent maroon and green plumage in breeding condition. It is the most widespread ibis in the world. Along the Atlantic Coast it has expanded dramatically northward over the past 50 years, now breeding regularly in New England.
