The Velvety Free-tailed Bat is one of the most abundant free-tailed bats in tropical America, roosting in buildings and hollow trees in large colonies from Mexico through South America. It has extremely short, velvety fur and the characteristic tail projecting beyond the tail membrane of all molossid bats. It is a fast, high-altitude forager that emerges in the last light of evening.
