Sowerby's Beaked Whale was the first beaked whale ever described by science, documented by James Sowerby in 1804. It inhabits deep North Atlantic waters and is recognized by the two erupted teeth positioned mid-lower-jaw in males. Like all Mesoplodon, it is very rarely observed at sea and known mostly from strandings along Atlantic coastlines.
