The Spotted Bat is one of North America's most striking bats, with jet black fur and three large white spots on its back, and ears so enormous—nearly two inches long—that it folds them under its wings when roosting. Its echolocation calls are partially audible to the human ear as a series of metallic pinging sounds. It roosts in cliff crevices and forages at remarkable heights—sometimes over 200 feet—pursuing large moths.
