The Differential Grasshopper is one of the largest grasshoppers in North America and one of the most destructive, with distinctive black chevron markings on the hind femur and a straw-yellow coloration. During population outbreaks it forms dense migratory swarms that devastate crops. It is a key species studied in grasshopper population ecology.
