The Doubtful Agroperina is a small, reddish-brown grass noctuid whose caterpillar lives at the base of grass stems. It is one of many similar grass moths in the family Noctuidae that require microscopic examination of genitalia for certain identification. Adults are attracted to light and common in grassy habitats through late summer and fall.
