Elegant Clarkia is a showy native annual of the California Coast Range, producing masses of lavender to pink four-petaled flowers with distinctive clawed petals. It blooms in spring and early summer in chaparral, grassland openings, and dry slopes. It is an important nectar plant for native bees and specialist Clarkia bees collect its pollen.
