Mead's Wood Nymph is a medium-sized brown satyr butterfly of the Rocky Mountain region with a rich orange-gold patch surrounding two large forewing eyespots, distinguishing it from the Common Wood Nymph. It inhabits dry, grassy hillsides in mountain meadows and foothills. Adults have a characteristic bouncy, erratic flight and perch on rocks and low plants.

Larvae: grasses. Adults: flower nectar and rotting fruit
