Snakefly

Agulla adnixa

The Snakefly (Agulla adnixa) is a slender, elongated insect with a distinctively long 'neck' (prothorax) and transparent wings, found primarily in western North American conifer forests. Females have a long ovipositor used to lay eggs under bark. It is a predator of bark beetle larvae and other insects under bark. Snakeflies represent an ancient insect lineage with fossil relatives over 250 million years old.
