The Pitchfork Ant is a rare, cryptic ant found in tropical areas bordering southern North America, named for its bizarre trident-shaped mandibles that open nearly 360 degrees and are used to impale the spiny bristles of polyxenid millipedes — the only known prey. Almost nothing is known of its biology and only a handful of specimens have ever been collected.
