The Common Hoverfly is a medium-sized, yellow-and-black banded hoverfly that closely mimics a wasp in appearance but is completely harmless. It is one of the most abundant and widespread hoverflies in North America and a significant pollinator of many wildflowers and crops. Larvae are predatory aphid-eaters found on aphid-infested plants.
