The Mexican Cottontail is the largest cottontail in North America, found in highland forests and grasslands of the Mexican plateau. It is ecologically similar to the eastern cottontail and inhabits the full range of central Mexican forest types from oak woodlands to pine forests. Unlike most cottontails, it sometimes uses underground burrows.
