The Zerene Fritillary is a variable western fritillary with orange-tawny wings and silvered spots below, comprising several subspecies of conservation concern including the federally endangered Behren's and Myrtle's subspecies. It inhabits coastal prairie and forest openings where violets grow. Like all Speyeria, larvae overwinter immediately after hatching without feeding.
