The Hine's Emerald Dragonfly is a federally endangered species in the US, restricted to calcareous seep marshes in the Great Lakes region. Its brilliant metallic green eyes and yellow-spotted body make it one of the most beautiful dragonflies in North America. Loss of dolomite prairie seep habitat to development has reduced it to fewer than a dozen known populations.
