The Hoary Comma is a comma butterfly of northern and montane forests, with a strongly yellow-gray frosted hindwing underside that gives it its 'hoary' name. Like other commas it overwinters as an adult and has ragged, leaf-mimicking wing edges. It is found at higher elevations and more northern latitudes than most commas and flies in a single brief summer brood.
