Mad Dog Skullcap is a native mint-family wildflower of moist woodlands and stream banks across eastern North America, producing small, blue to lavender two-lipped flowers along one-sided racemes from the leaf axils in summer. Growing 1–2.5 feet tall, it was historically used as a remedy for rabies (hence 'mad dog') and as a nervine for anxiety — uses still popular in herbal medicine. The genus name refers to a small cap-like projection on the flower calyx.

Habitat
Found in moist woods, stream banks, and wet woodland edges across eastern North America.
Diet
Flowers provide nectar for small native bees, especially sweat bees.
