Illustration of Florida Mouse (Podomys floridanus)

The Florida Mouse is endemic to the state of Florida and is the sole member of its genus. It is strongly associated with scrub and sandhill habitats and relies heavily on the burrows of the gopher tortoise for shelter. As gopher tortoise populations have declined, the Florida mouse has faced increasing habitat pressure in the rapidly developing Florida peninsula.
