Illustration of Western White Pine (Pinus monticola)

Western White Pine is a graceful five-needled pine of Pacific Northwest mountains that once dominated vast areas before being nearly eliminated by white pine blister rust, introduced in the early 20th century. Rust-resistant individuals have been selectively bred and planted in restoration programs. It provides large seeds for Clark's nutcracker and other wildlife.
